💼 ABE Workforce Readiness & Employability Skills
A respectful, self-paced Adult Basic Education course that prepares you to find, get, and keep a good job — built for grown-ups, from the ground up. Twelve real lessons take you from understanding today's workplace all the way through the job search, résumés, applications, interviews, and the everyday skills that help you succeed and grow once you're hired.
📚 About This Course
This course is for adults getting ready for work — whether you're looking for your first job, returning after time away, changing fields, or moving up. 🎯 Standards Alignment
This course is designed to be useful to programs funded under WIOA Title II (the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act). It targets the workforce-preparation activities named in the law — helping adults build a combination of basic academic, critical-thinking, digital-literacy, and self-management skills, including using resources and information, working with others, and understanding systems.
- WIOA workforce preparation: self-management, working with others, using information, understanding systems, critical thinking, digital literacy
- CCRS — College & Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (reading, writing, and speaking/listening practices)
- NRS — supports Educational Functioning Levels (ABE/ASE) and Measurable Skill Gains reporting
- Northstar Digital Literacy — where lessons involve online job search, applications, email, and video interviews
Framework-general; frameworks (WIOA/AEFLA/CCRS/NRS/Northstar) apply nationally. Confirm current specifics with the Nevada Department of Education / CRAELO and your state's WIOA Title II plan.
🧭 How to Study This Course
- One lesson at a time, in order. Don't rush. It's a marathon, not a sprint.
- Do the real tasks. Every lesson has hands-on work — a list, a draft, a practice answer. Doing it for real is where it sticks.
- Keep one folder. Start a folder (paper or digital) for your work documents — notes, résumé drafts, a list of references. You'll build it as you go.
- Keep the journal. Five minutes of reflection after each lesson doubles what you remember.
- Ask for help. Libraries, one-stop career centers, and adult-education programs have people, computers, and free services. Using them is smart, not weak.
🧠 A word before you begin
The "rules of work" can feel like a test nobody taught you to study for. They're not a measure of your worth — they're a set of habits and steps that anyone can learn. Add the word yet to your doubts: "I don't know how to interview yet." Let's begin. 🌱
